Can We Trust No One?
My wonderful husband was asked to apply to a local STAIRS AND RAIL COMPANY. He had a job that he was unhappy with, but it paid the bills just fine, but he didnt think it would hurt to explore the possibilities. He told Mr. Frattle that he didn’t think they could afford to pay him to weld the stairs in the shop, but Frattle’s assured him when they called at 8 AM the next day they could “move things around” to make sure we could pay our mortgage. Turns out that means they scam and pay part of the money under a different title, so as to decrease compensation costs in my opinion.
After only one paycheck they drop my husbands pay by 11%, saying–OOOPS–we made a mistake, we really cant pay you what we said we could, but feel free to hang out by the train tracks with the grinder guys and smoke up. OH, and then go get a urine drug test. Thank God my husband doesnt do drugs, even when they are pushed in his face. Stinks of set up though!! Passing the drug screen just fine, showing up on time every day, and trying to learn the business when no one wanted to teach it..my husband tried his best. Then, only 2 paychecks under his belt, still wondering how we tell the four year old we cant afford to get him chocolate milk this week, the obviously multiple personality FRATTLE says he has to drop my husbands pay ANOTHER 10%. My wonderful husband decided the best thing to do was walk out before someone got hurt.
If I need a stair rail replaced, fixed, fabricated, or otherwise addressed here in JACKSONVILLE FLORIDA, I would think twice about hiring this obviously confused company to do it. If they cant even treat their employees like people, what do they think of their customers? And why ASK someone to work for you, then leave the family with no way to pay the bills. We have two children to feed, clothe, and keep a roof over their heads. What is his problem? I think he should be held liable for his actions. If he wanted someone with more experience, first, he would have to pay more, and second–HIRE THEM!!! He knew what he was getting, a man with better work ethic than his entire shop, just no aluminum stairs experience. But I guess it makes more sense to run off a good employee than train them right. And that’s what is wrong with the world today…
WOW! I empathize with your situation. I took a job back in October 2007 with a client of the company I was employed. They made all sorts of better salary and benefits within 90 days of my employment. The 89th day, which was 2 days following Christmas, the company let me go. I’m a single parent with a mentally ill child and have now been unemployed for 5 months. I fearlessly and fervently sought employment, interview 2 and 3 times with companies with no avail of landing a job. I’m terrified of what is going to happen. My savings is drained and my unemployment will end in a couple weeks. I resolve to keep you and your family in my prayers as I do believe prayer works in numbers! May you be blessed!!!
